ALOPECIA PREMATURA

ALOPECIA PREMATURA IS ONE OF THE CAUSE FOR HAIR FALL AND BALDNESS

Alopecia prematura : It is premature balding of the head. As a disease it ma begin at any age but rarely before the 30th year. There will be increase in the normal shedding of hair commencing about the temples and the vertex. The hair line at the sides of the forehead may gradually recede, spacing a central crest for some time and forming an arched forehead; or the entire forehead line may recede presenting the high forehead. Some times the hair on the whole crown may become thin or thinning may extend from the vertex forward. This is generally a slow process and there is no connection with the greying of hair.Usually the sides and the back are unaffected. In this kind of alopecia the baldness may be permanent or temporary depending on the causation.Permanent baldness may ensure if it is due to diseases like scleroderma, syphilis, folliculitis etc. Temporary baldness may come from localized Ecxzema,Psoriasis,Erysipelas, etc. Most causes are due to dandruff. There may also be hairfall canvalescence stage of acute fevers like Typhoid,Small pox,or due to mental anxiety or nervous shock;but this baldness is generally temporary.
Premature baldness is mostly due to heredity.Women are less affected than men may be due to greater abundence of fat in their scalps or the greater care they give to the hair. Baldness is more frequent in urban population than in rural communities and is rarely noted in savages.Apart from heredity the symptomatic alopecia is due to Seborrhoea(Dandruff), city life, lack of exercise, excessive meat diet, gout etc.
